While we brace ourselves for a summer of sport in nearly all its guises, the Freud Museum will host a day-long conference exploring what goes on besides the quest to come first.Book now if you are interested (30 June at Anna Freud Centre in London NW3).

Issues about the body, play, aggression, sublimation, group process and unconscious motivation will be explored and used to further understand the various dynamics of sport and the emotional toll it can take on participants and spectators alike. Michael Brearley (of England cricket fame, now a psychoanalyst) and Alastair Campbell will talk about leadership and teamwork, Andrew Samuels (ex chair of the UKCP) will look at the ‘Crowd as Therapist’. Other speakers include Arturo Varchevker and Claire Colebrook.
